Potomac Yard

Alexandria, Virginia

Potomac Yard Retail Center is located along Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) in Alexandria, Virginia, just minutes from the District of Columbia. The center contains 589,856 SF of restaurants, movie theaters and shops and ~3,625 parking spots on a 70 acre tract. Its ideal location and expansive tenant list, have made it one of the top-producing power centers is the country.

The center is in close proximity to Reagan National Airport. This continues a long history of the area acting as a transportation center. First ships brought commerce to the area until the demise of the canal in 1886. In 1906, it became a rail yard with 68 tracks. The numbers of tracks continued to expand and some 10,172 passed through per day in 1945. With the increasing popularity of the automobile, the use of rail transportation began to decline, leading to the eventual closing of the rail yard in 1987. A new identity for the area was formed in 1997 with the completion of The Potomac Yard Retail Center.

McCaffery Interests assumed management of the property in 2004. It is 100% leased and operating beyond capacity. McCaffery is currently exploring development opportunities within the area to ensure the long term success of the area.
